What can I expect from the lap-band procedure?

• The lap-band procedure is performed
  laparoscopically, usually as an outpatient.
• Minimal discomfort and downtime.
• General anesthesia is used.
• The procedure takes about 40 minutes to perform.

What can I expect after treatment?

• Most patients return to work within 3-4 days.
• Liquid diet is started the evening of surgery and is advanced to solid diet over the next few weeks. Our dietician will guide you every step of the way.
• Weight loss can be 50-60% of your extra weight. It can very often be significantly higher if the patient eats well and exercises.

Is the Lap-band Safe?

• Overall the lap-band is much safer than the RNY Gastric Bypass.
• There is no stomach cutting or intestinal re-routing.
• Possible risks and benefits are discussed on an individual basis with Dr. Mehta as well as at his seminars.
